Paul has been playing and teaching chess for over 40 years. He started playing tournament chess in 1979 and is still an active

player.

Paul began teaching chess in 1984 for the Police Benevolent Association in Massapequa, NY. Recently, he moved to North Carolina and has been teaching chess in

multiple schools in the Raleigh area. Before moving to North Carolina, Paul was a chess coach for Friends Academy in Glen Cove, NY, and ultimately began teaching high school chess for Portledge School in Locust Valley, NY, where he was also a Team Coach.

Paul is the Co-Founder and previous owner of the Long Island Chess Center. He also started the American Online Chess Academy with Harold Scott, FIDE Master Roger LaFlair, and Grandmaster Joel Benjamin. Paul was on a chess team that won the New England Amateur Team Championship 2 years in a row. His peak international rating is FIDE 2275.
