NC State Championship
Welcome to the Official 2025 North Carolina State Championship! This 5-round USCF-rated tournament is open to North Carolina residents, students enrolled in NC colleges or universities, and military personnel stationed in the state. Recognized as one of the most competitive events on the state calendar, it attracts strong players from across North Carolina who are eager to test their skills and contend for top honors.
The tournament features a prize fund of $8,000, based on 130 players ($6,000 guaranteed at 75%). Entry is capped at 150 players, and we expect to sell out β please register early to secure your place. Registration officially closes at 150 entries. Dragon Knight Chess reserves the right to accept additional entries beyond this limit, depending on space availability.

Entry Fees and Deadlines
Section Choice Guidelines
For βplaying upβ in the Open, Under 2000, or Under 1600 Sections, the 100-point rule applies:

Minimum rating to enter Open Section: 1900

After September 20 or on-site: $120 (must be completed at least 1 hour before the relevant Round 1; mandatory Β½-point bye for Round 1 is likely)
Refunds:

Withdrawals by October 1: refunded minus a $10 transaction fee

Withdrawals after October 1: 50% refund until 1 hour before Round 1
Re-entry: Players who wish to re-enter after an undesirable start may do so for a $40 fee.

Optional Byes: Up to 2 half-point byes allowed if declared before Round 3

All changes, byes, and withdrawals must be submitted at least 1 hour before the relevant round

Players who forfeit (βno-showβ) without sufficient notice may be fined up to $100

Ratings: October 2025 USCF Regular rating list will be used for section eligibility, pairings, and prizes
